Healthy Haddock – The Benefits of Smoked Fish

Every month we send out our newsletter with a bucketload of special offers and this month, lucky subscribers will receive an exclusive discount on Smoked Haddock (click here to subscribe to our newsletter before you miss out on any more offers!). With that in mind, we thought we’d recap on some of the fantastic health benefits of this delicious white fish.

Great for the Waistline…

Not only is smoked haddock really tasty, it’s also low in fat and contains zero carbohydrates. It also only has around 180 calories for each small portion—incredible! It almost sounds to good to be true, but the secret is in the prep. Avoid tempting techniques like breading or frying haddock, and head straight for the grill or even, adding a little bit of spice and citrus for that all-important bite.

…And Great for your Body

Haddock is rich in minerals that help to build bone strength and regulate your heart rate, and this includes everything from selenium (which has been reported to help prevent cancer, heart disease, diabetes and a weak immune system), to the likes of magnesium, potassium, zinc and iron, all of which strengthen and improve the health of your body.

Haddock Gains

Smoked Haddock is a brilliant source of protein, with every 100g serving up 19g of the stuff—almost 40% of your daily recommended intake! Protein is good if you’re trying to gain some muscle, but it’s also useful for the prevention of diseases such as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Protein also delays your stomach emptying process, so you’ll be fuller for longer, and it takes more calories for your body to metobolise protein than carbohydrates so it really is a win-win!

Crammed with Vitamins

Haddock’s absolutely filled to the gills with essential vitamins, particularly B vitamins such as niacin, cobalamin, vitamin B6, thiamine, riboflavin, folate and pantothenic acid—all of which play important roles in cell and food metabolism and red blood cell formation.
